<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain excellent performance, low fuel consumption and reduction of pollutants in exhaust in a multiple cylinder diesel engine. <P>SOLUTION: Each intake valve (7) is a variable driving type valve, is connected to each tappet via a hydraulic means, and is operated by each tappet against a spring means via the hydraulic means. A pressure fluid chamber of the hydraulic means is connected to a discharge passage via a solenoid valve to cut power from each tappet to the intake valve (7) and rapidly close the intake valve (7) by the spring means, and includes an electronic control means for controlling the solenoid valve to change opening and closing periods of the intake valve (7). In a cam of a camshaft, a valve lift profile including a boot portion (C2) at substantially constant lift is generated. The boot portion (C2) is after a bottom dead point and is set in the final portion of an intake valve lift cycle. The electronic control means opens the solenoid valve and reduces the boot portion (C2) when the electronic control means is required to be operated with a high compression ratio. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
