[Class 82 (i)] Bearings are made from a pressed and sintered mass of silver or silver base alloys impregnated with lead, lead alloys, babbitt metal, white bearing alloys, zinc, tin, tin alloys, cadmium, cadmium alloys, aluminium, antimony, bismuth, or thalluim. The particles of one metal may be coated with another metal, for example, silver with lead or lead with silver. The silver particles may be hot pressed, followed or not by an additional sintering operation ; or sintering and impregnation may be combined by immersing a pressed silver body in molten lead. In some cases, the bearing made as above may be backed by solid metal such as an iron or copper alloy, and the silver composition may be bonded thereto by applying an intermediate coating of a metal such as copper, tin, zinc, or cadmium..</p> |
