A power-saving method of a mobile communication terminal in a portable Internet system and the mobile communication terminal using the method are provided to select the best power-saving mode for the current situation of the terminal by using terminal usage-related information or data transceiving-related information, thereby operating a sleep mode where a sleep window having proper length for the current situation of the terminal is set. An information collector obtains at least one piece of information to store the obtained information(S210), and a controller selects a power-saving mode to be set in a mobile communication terminal(S220). A transceiving module transmits a request message for setting the selected power-saving mode to a serving base station(S230), and receives a response message(S240). As the response message is received, a mode manager sets the selected power-saving mode(S250). |
