Disclosed is a method for operating a display 4 of a driver information system on which an image is displayed, the foreground of which shows driver information F and the background of which a shows a background image H preset for a given user, wherein the user-specific background image H is dimmed or hidden in case of need. The present invention further relates to a driver information system for performing the method according to the inÂvention. The background image H may be dimmed based on vehicle speed, for example when the vehicle exceeds 20km/h, or when high-priority information or a hazard warning is displayed. The background may be a colour chosen by the user or driver when the background image H is hidden, and the colour of driver information F may also be chosen by the user. |
