An air conditioner for group control and a method thereof are provided to set one of a plurality of indoor units as a master indoor unit and the others as slave indoor units with a same network address and a same higher rank number, thereby controlling the slave indoor units in association with the master indoor unit without data collision. An air conditioner for group control includes a group controller(10) for transmitting group control commands input for controlling a group of a plurality of indoor units(20S) simultaneously to a master indoor unit in the group, and receiving operation state data and error state data from each of the indoor units in the group. The master indoor unit(20M) is able to set one or more groups according to a set network address and operates according to the control commands output from the group controller. The plurality of indoor units are slave indoor units for carrying out same operation simultaneously according to the control command signal transmitted from the master indoor unit. An outdoor unit(30) controls flow of refrigerant distributed to or circulating in indoor units according to the control command. |
