PURPOSE: A character generating method and a device thereof are provided to generate all characters with only six character icons, thereby the character generating method and the device are used in small and slim digital convergence devices. CONSTITUTION: A character icon composed of activation and deactivation lines is displayed(S10). The activation and deactivation lines selected among the activation and deactivation lines of the displayed character icon are determined(S20). A phoneme or number code mapped to a combination of the selected activation and deactivation lines is searched in a code database(S30). The searched phoneme or number code is generated. A determination command determining the phoneme or number code is inputted(S50).
