<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient image forming apparatus or the like which is connected to a server by determining whether or not it is possible to provide electronic data depending on a read document and receiving electronic data desired by a user from a server. <P>SOLUTION: An image is read from a document and document identification information is recognized from the image. Whether electronic data corresponding to document identification information is in a server is confirmed, and when there is electronic data in a server, electronic data request information for requesting electronic data is transmitted.
