<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in which gross paper and cardboard having the same basis weight cannot be distinguished from each other with a class determination method of a recording medium using a basis weight sensor, and therefore optimal image forming condition is not obtained, which has been one of the causes of image failure. <P>SOLUTION: Recovery behavior of a recording medium is measured with a non-contact distance sensor taking advantage of flexural rigidity of the recording medium, and the class of the recording medium is determined from a difference in output profile. Accordingly, gross paper and cardboard having the same basis weight can be distinguished from each other, which has not been done with a basis weight sensor. Image forming condition is optimized in reference to class information of the recording medium, and thereby image quality is improved and a user is not required to specify a print mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
