The device has a module housing arranged in a region of a rear edge (3) of a bonnet (2) and infront of a windscreen (4). A wiper device is provided with a wiper arm (6), which is arranged in a lower position in an exit channel region and crosswise at a bottom portion of the windscreen in a deployment direction of an airbag. The wiper arm includes a ramp formed with a ramp profile as a contour free guide surface along length of the wiper device for deployment of the airbag undisturbed by the wiper device. A disk shaped air bag module (5) is arranged in a water box.
