Frequency inverter with excess voltage protection and method for operating same

The inverter (26) has network connections (A1-A3) coupled with a feed-in rectifier (28) i.e. controllable converter, via inductors (L1', L2', L3'). Two terminals of the inductors are connected with the connections and the rectifier. The inductors are provided by a primary winding of a transformer such that the inductors are coupled with secondary windings (L4-L6) i.e. separate coil, of the transformer, where the secondary windings are connected to another rectifier (40). The secondary windings are coupled with an intermediate circuit capacitor (34) of an intermediate circuit (32). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a frequency inverter.
