The unit has cylindrical modular elements (1-3) respectively comprising external thermal insulation envelopes (1A-3A) for corresponding phases of a multi-phase superconductor cable. The envelopes contain superconductor cable portions (7-9) contained in internal envelopes (1B-3B) containing cooling fluid e.g. liquid nitrogen, respectively. Branch elements (4-6) of the phases are arranged at ends of the modular elements and directly connected to the cable portions, and only electrical connection elements (4A-6A) e.g. lugs, of the branch elements project from the modular elements, respectively. The internal envelopes are made from a thermally insulating material, and a thermally insulating foam is arranged between the internal and external envelopes. |
