PURPOSE: A portable terminal and control method thereof are provided to effectively control Wi-Fi access according to the service environment of a portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(180) receives a first cell Identifier information according to the entry of a first cell. When identifier information matched with the first cell identifier information is existed in a DB(Data Base), the control unit operates a Wi-Fi communication module. The control unit forms one or more access points and a communication interface. When a channel is disconnected from the access point, the control unit stops the operation of the Wi-Fi communication module.
