<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a basket type silsesquioxane resin which has a carbon-carbon double bond and an epoxy group in a molecule and in which reaction or structure can be easily controlled when producing a polymer, and to provide a method for producing the resin at high yield. <P>SOLUTION: The basket type silsesquioxane resin is obtained by hydrolyzing and condensing a silicon compound (a) represented by a silane (1): R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>SiX<SB POS="POST">3</SB>containing an R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>group including an unsaturated group (wherein X is a hydrolyzable group), and another silicon compound (c) represented by general formula (5): R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>SiX<SB POS="POST">3</SB>(wherein R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>is a group including an epoxy group; and X is a hydrolyzable group) in the presence of a mixed solvent comprising water and organic (non)polar solvents, and of a basic catalyst.
