<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a vehicle rack and pinion type steering device. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle steering device 10 which transmits a steering torque from a steering wheel to steered wheels 21 and 21 via a rack-and-pinion mechanism 15 includes: a rack shaft 16 in which a rack 32 is formed; two rack support parts 50 and 50 positioned to both sides of a longitudinal direction of the rack shaft relative to the position of a pinion 31; and an urging part 60 positioned between the two rack support parts. The two rack support parts are positioned close to each other to support only a back surface 16a of the region where the rack is formed in the rack shaft which is positioned in a steering neutral position, the back surface being supported to be able to slide in the longitudinal direction.
