The carrier i.e. side impact carrier (18), has a carrier section (26) partially designed as a hollow section. Reinforcement elements (28, 30) are provided over a length region of the carrier section by an embossment or a seam. Spacer ribs are arranged at an outer surface of the reinforcement elements for supporting the reinforcement elements on an inner surface of the carrier section. The ribs run in an extending direction of the reinforcement elements and/or the carrier section. The carrier section comprises receiving chambers, and the reinforcement elements are fixed within the chambers. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a carrier for a motor vehicle.
