<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable focus lens that is able to speedily change the focal distance. <P>SOLUTION: The variable focus lens includes: an electro-optical material; and entrance surface side electrodes and exit surface side electrodes, formed on each surface of two parallel surfaces opposed to each other and perpendicular to a light-incident surface and a light-exiting surface of the electro-optical material. An optical axis is established so that light enters from the entrance surface and the light exits from the exit surface; edges of the entrance surface side electrode which are opposed to edges of the exit surface side electrode are disposed in parallel; the edges of the entrance surface side electrode which are opposed to the edges of the exit surface side electrode, and edges of the entrance surface side electrode formed on an opposing surface across the electro-optical material of which the edges are opposed to the edges of the exit-surface side electrode, are each disposed in parallel. An electric field formed between the entrance-surface side electrode and the exit-surface side electrode is changed, in a region where the light is transmitted focusing on the optical axis; the focus of the light transmitted through the electro-optical material becomes variable, by changing applied voltage between the entrance-surface side electrode and the exit-surface side electrode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
