A sheet W is lifted from a stack S by suction heads 4 adjustable along a bar 3 carried by a frame 5 which is rockable about pivots 6 by a cam roll thereon engaging a groove 8 in a reciprocating carriage 11. The sheet is fed to an adhesive applying roll 1 by rolls 17, 19 of which the latter is adjustably mounted on the carriage 11. Actual engagement of the heads 4 with the top of the stack S is prevented by a stop 55. Suction is cut off from the heads between successive operations by the engagement of a bar 27 on the carriage 11 with an arm 28 to open a valve 25, and by the opening of a valve 31 by a cam 12 on the main shaft which acts also to reciprocate the carriage 11 through a lever arm 13. Suction can also be cut off by manual operation of a valve 23. The platform 46 supporting the stack S has a pivoted forward portion 47 manually adjustable by a stop number 54. The platform is automatically raised by a rack 85 and pinion 83 operated from the arm 13 through rod 77, pawl 79 and ratchet 80, and gears 81, 82 after the frame 72 carrying the pawl 79 has been tripped by the suction bar 3 acting through means including the bars 67, 68 and latch 69. A cam 86 on the carriage 11 restores the bars 67, 68 and other members to normal position. |
