PURPOSE: An apparatus for predicting fracture of a slab and a control method thereof are provided to prevent damage and contamination of continuous casting equipment by accurately predicting fracture of the slab. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for predicting fracture of a slab comprises a vibration sensor(10) and a control unit. The vibration sensor is attached to a mold and measures the vibration and inclination of the mold. The vibration sensor includes a fixing part(14) for attaching a body(12) to the mold and two- and three-axis inclination sensors(18,16) fixed inside the body. The control unit calculates the actual vibration obtained by compensating the vibration measured by the vibration sensor for inclination, thereby predicting fracture of the slab.
