An ultrasound observation device comprises: a frequency analysis unit which computes a frequency spectrum by analyzing a frequency of a received ultrasound; a characteristic value extraction unit which extracts a characteristic value of the frequency spectrum by approximating the frequency spectrum; a storage unit which stores the extracted characteristic value of the frequency spectrum based on ultrasound reflected respectively by a plurality of known specimens and divides the plurality of known specimens into a plurality of groups on the basis of the characteristic value and stores same; a degree of correspondence computation unit which computes a degree of correspondence between the characteristic value which the characteristic value extraction unit extracts and each group by employing a population statistic including at least the characteristic value of each group; an image processing unit which generates ultrasound image data having a display state corresponding to the specimen characteristic value on the basis of the computation result of the degree of correspondence computation unit; and a display unit capable of displaying an image corresponding to the ultrasound image data generated by the image processing unit.
