A changing device (16) cooperates with the device (2) during insertion of the device (2) in a charging station (6), to move the battery into the charging station. Another battery (B) provided in the charging device is moved into the device (2). A measuring device (14) compares energy contents in the batteries. The measuring device controls the changing device such that the battery with less energy content is moved into the charging station and the battery with more energy content is moved into the portable device.
