HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL APPARATUS AND METHOD

A hazardous waste container for permanently disposing of hazardous waste in submarine subduction zones. The waste container is dropped overboard from a marine vessel into deep ocean water and descends therethrough before penetrating a sediment layer of subduction zone. The waste container has a generally cylindrical wall section with a leading end and a trailing end extending therefrom. At least one moveable fin member is supported by the trailing end for guiding a descent path. A control unit is in communication with the fin members and a surface-mounted guidance system.
