Disclosed are substituted thiazole compounds of Formula (I) wherein R1 is a substituted phenyl group and R2 is a substituted pyridine group. A specific example of the compounds of Formula (I) is: 6-[2-(3,4-diethoxyphenyl)thiazol-4-yl]pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (also known as titomilast) The compounds are useful in the treatment of fibrosis or pulmonary emphysema caused by MMP-2 and/or MMP-9.
