Depending on control signals, the coupling units (6) either bypass the respectively associated energy storage cells (5) or switch the respectively associated energy storage cells (5) into the energy supply branch (3-1, 3-2, 3-3). The energy storage cells (5) of at least two energy storage modules (4) are each connectable to or disconnectable from a DC voltage intermediate circuit (9), via a controllable combinational circuit (8).
