The leveling instrument has a tubular element (11), a LED (12) and a pair of photoelectric elements (A,B), where the LED and the photoelectric elements are arranged on opposite sides of the tubular element. The light emitted from the LED is passed through the tubular element and received by the photoelectric elements. The light-dense areas are arranged on the tubular element for shading a portion of the light on the tubular element.
