<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction engagement device which can suppress heat generation. <P>SOLUTION: The friction engagement device is characterized in that: a first engagement member and a second engagement member are relativey-rotatably and alternately arranged along the axial direction; the first engagement member and the second engagement member are engaged with each other by a friction force so as to be integrally rotatable by an effect that a pressing member applies pressing forces on the first engagement member and the second engagement member via an elastic member 6; the elastic member 6 has a plate body 13 formed into a leaf spring shape, and a claw 14 protrusively arranged outside the external periphery of the plate body 13, and positioning the plate body 13; and the claw 14 has a hollow part 17 penetrating in the thickness direction.
