<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To pass an endoscope smoothly even when an examination hole is curved. <P>SOLUTION: The body 40 of a self-propelled device includes endless belts 44a to 44d. The endless belts 44a to 44d are placed above and below and on both sides of a central axis A of an insertion part 16, respectively, and are individually circulation-driven. An endless belt 46a is circulation-driven at a speed faster than that of the other endless belts when the cross key of a control unit is operated in a downward direction. Also, the endless belt 46b is circulation-driven at a speed faster than those of other endless belts when the cross key is operated in an upward direction, the endless belt 44c is circulation-driven at a speed faster than those of other endless belts when the cross key is operated in the left direction, and the endless belt 44d is circulation-driven at a speed faster than those of other endless belts when the cross key is operated in the right direction.
