POLARIZING BEAM SPLITTER AND PROJECTION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing beam splitter capable of providing a compact projection device with high use efficiency of light, and provide a projection device using the polarizing beam splitter.

SOLUTION: A polarizing beam splitter (14) includes a polarization split surface (141) for transmitting a polarization component in a predetermined direction and reflecting a polarization component in a substantially orthogonal direction to the predetermined direction. The polarization split surface (141) is configured to include a curved surface so as to focus the reflected light in the polarization split surface (141). A projection device (1) is configured using the polarizing beam splitter (14).
