<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing head provided with a modified side shield. <P>SOLUTION: The writing head having an air bearing surface includes a magnetic writing electrode having a trailing surface, a reading surface confronting the trailing surface and first and second surfaces on the air bearing surface, a trailing shield near the trailing surface of the magnetic writing electrode, first and second gaps near the first and second surfaces of the magnetic writing electrode, first and second side shields respectively having a trailing shield surface near the first and second gaps, and first and second antiferromagnetic coupling layers positioned between the trailing shield surfaces of the first and second side shields and the trailing shield. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
