<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording material transport apparatus that can reduce variations in a position of a recording material generated in changing the position of the recording material by moving the recording material in a direction intersecting a transport direction of the recording material. <P>SOLUTION: After an end of a sheet P abuts on an abutment member 300, and skew of the sheet P is corrected (refer to (c)), the sheet P reaches a first side border detection sensor SK1 and one end of the sheet P is detected by the first side border detection sensor SK1 as shown in (d).
