COMPOSITION FOR REFRACTORY AND REFRACTORY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a refractory which can prevent environmental pollution or the like by suppressing production of a harmful gas and is excellent in corrosion resistance and spalling resistance.

SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a composition for a refractory in which refractory aggregate is blended with a binder. Starches and sugars are combinedly contained as the binder in a mass ratio of 5:95 to 90:10, and a carboxylic acid for polymerizing the starches and sugars is also contained. The starches and sugars do not discharge a harmful gas in large quantity even when decomposed by heating. The objective refractory excellent in both corrosion resistance and spalling resistance can be obtained by combinedly using the starches and sugars as a binder, and the refractory can be improved in strength by polymerizing the starches and sugars with the carboxylic acid.
