<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect such a failure that prevents execution of an operation related to normal recording as much as possible, when the failure occurs. <P>SOLUTION: A control command execution unit 15a of a printer 10 determines whether a control command is a specific control command for detecting presence of a failure.
