<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing adjusting device for preventing the occurrence of lock release failure of a vane rotor by operational failure of a stopper pin upon starting an engine. <P>SOLUTION: This valve timing adjusting device regulates relative rotation of a housing and the vane rotor by fitting the stopper pin stored in a storage hole of the vane rotor to a fitting hole of the housing when starting the engine. When releasing fitting of the stopper pin after starting the engine, an ECU compares the tension direction of acting on a rear plate for constituting the housing by a chain with the direction of a parallel component to the tension direction in the advancing direction of the storage hole (S105). When the tension direction and the direction of the parallel component are the same direction, the direction of acting on the vane rotor by a cam torque is determined (S108). When the direction of acting on the vane rotor by the cam torque and the tension direction are the opposite direction, the ECU commands generation of hydraulic pressure to a hydraulic control valve. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
