A spool 18 comprises a skirt portion 18b of larger diameter than a spool portion 18a; a curved pommel 21 is provided on the spool portion or an adjacent rim, with the pommel adapted to receive a loop of line 17 from the spool. An elongate elastic line retainer 28 is provided on the skirt portion and may be looped around the pommel, automatically releasing the line as a result of a pull thereon; and may have ends 32a,32b fixed to the skirt portion. The pommel may have an undercut 27, and there may be a second retainer 24 adjacent the pommel to create a nip for securing the line. The retainer may be a continuous ring around the skirt, restrained in at least one location. There may be an annular groove in which the elastic retainer is at least partially located when at rest. |
