There is described a hand plane with a plane-iron arrangement which is capable of fine adjustment, is accommodated displaceably and with lateral play in a plane hole of the plane, is coupled to an adjusting device for setting the cutting depth and the cutter alignment, and can be fixed by means of a fixing device in a predetermined set adjustment position, the plane-iron arrangement being pressed flat against a bearing surface in the plane hole for this purpose. The adjusting device for setting the cutting depth has a differential thread adjusting spindle, the first thread portion of which is in engagement with a part of the plane which is fixed against displacement and the second thread portion of which is in engagement with a driver for the plane-iron arrangement which is displaceable relative to the plane body. Provided in the region of the plane hole is a clamping claw which clamps the plane-iron arrangement against the bearing surface and is preferably formed by a double-armed lever which can be pressed against the plane-iron arrangement by its two ends, while being supported in an intermediate region on a tie rod passing through it. This design of the adjusting and fixing device makes it possible to clamp the plane-iron arrangement firmly against the bearing surfaces with the lowest possible weakening of the plane body and with a construction appropriate for the material involved and to make extremely fine adjustments to the plane cutter without thereby unduly increasing the manufacturing expenditure...
