An organoelectroluminescent element that is capable of simultaneously obtaining a high external quantum efficiency and a high power efficiency; that has the organic electroluminescent element having, on a substrate, a positive electrode, a first intermediate organic layer comprising at least one organic layer, a light emission layer, a second intermediate organic layer comprising at least one organic layer, and a negative electrode, in the sequence listed; and in which light is extracted from the positive-electrode side. In the organic electroluminescent element, the light emission layer contains a light emission material aligned in a direction horizontal to the substrate, the order parameter of the light emission material in the light emission layer is equal to or greater than 0.7, and the relationship between the film thickness T1 (nm) of the first intermediate organic layer and the film thickness T2 (nm) of the second intermediate organic layer is 1.1 < T1/T2 < 4.0, where 20 nm < T2 < 80 nm. |
