In a method for producing springs by means of a numerically controlled spring machine, a wire is supplied in a supply direction by a supply device to a deformation device of the spring coiling machine under control by a control programme and is deformed in a deforming operation with the aid of tools of the deforming device to form a spring. The deforming device has a mandrel with a mandrel axis oriented perpendicularly to the supply direction and spring coils surround the mandrel during the deforming operation. The position and/or the orientation of the supply device are adjusted during the deforming operation with the aid of a controllable machine axis.
