Method for producing a catalyst that is used for the production of ethylene oxide and comprises silver and zinc applied to a carrier, said method at least including the steps of (i) providing a carrier, (ii) applying 10 ppm to 1500 ppm of zinc to the carrier from step (i) by bringing the carrier in contact with at least one mixture G1 comprising at least one zinc compound, the amount of applied zinc being calculated as an element and relative to the total weight of the carrier from step (i), (iii) drying and/or calcining the carrier obtained in step (ii), (iv) applying silver to the dry and/or calcined carrier by bringing the carrier in contact with at least one mixture G2 comprising at least one silver compound.
