<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an appropriate focusing position without degrading operational feeling even in a case where an operation as affecting a focus evaluation value is performed. <P>SOLUTION: At a point in time (t2) that a scanning is carried out for carrying out an AF operation, the AF operation is started. At a point in time (t3) that an operation for stopping the AF operation is performed, the AF operation is discontinued. In the case where a predetermined interruption occurs during the discontinuation of the AF operation, the AF operation is performed from a predetermined starting position at a point in time (t4) that the execution of the AF operation is specified after the interruption.
