摘要 Embodiments of the present invention relate to an inhomogeneous metamaterial capable of deflecting electromagnetic waves and comprise a functional layer made up of at least one lamella of metamaterial, the lamella of metamaterial comprising a substrate and a plurality of artificial microstructures attached thereupon. The functional layer is divided into multiple strip-shaped areas, the refractive index of the functional layer continuously increases within each strip-shaped area and there are at least two adjacent areas: a first area and a second area. The refractive index of the first area continuously increases from n1 to n2, and the refractive index of the second area continuously increases from n3 to n4, while satisfying the condition that n2> n3. By means of providing a metamaterial with multiple areas having each a continuously changing refractive index, the present invention achieves in each such area the slowed deflection of electromagnetic waves and allowing electromagnetic waves passing through multiple such areas to achieve a predetermined deflection direction. The inhomogeneous metamaterial of the present invention allows easy and flexible deflection of electromagnetic waves, is easy to manufacture, and suitable for mass production.
