An apparatus is disclosed for storing or transporting a valuable item, the apparatus comprises, an inner cassette (30,fig.3) for receiving the valuable item, and an outer case (10,fig.1) in which the inner cassette may be received. The inner cassette comprises means 102 for communicating with the outer case, means 100 for detecting interference with the inner cassette, and a spoiling system 50. The outer case comprises means 82 for communicating with the inner cassette, and means 80 for detecting interference with the outer case, wherein the spoiling system is configured to be activated in the event that the means 100 for detecting interference with the inner cassette detects interference with the inner cassette (30,fig.3) or in the event that the means 80 for detecting interference with the outer case detects interference with the outer case (10,fig.1). The inner cassette may comprise an ATM cassette. The communicating means may comprise infrared transmitters and receivers. The spoiling system may contain ink, adhesive, or a corrosive fluid. The arrangement is particularly suited to protecting an ATM cassette whilst it is in transit between one secure location and another. |
