[Class 38 (i)] In a cable connector of the kind in which the coupling members 5 are covered by insulating sleeves and are brought together without twisting, the sleeves 8 are long enough to cover their respective coupling members entirely. The cable connector comprises two identical members 5 provided with contact surfaces 4 wedge-shaped so that tension on the cable 1 increases the contact pressure between the surfaces. Conical projections 6 on the members 5 are received in conical recesses 6<1>, thereby ensuring correct alignment. Threaded tubular extensions 3 on the members 5 receive the cable ends and are rolled over at their ends 26 which may be formed from sawtooth flaps (Figs. 4 to 7, not shown) to engage the cable covering. The ribbed-rubber covered sleeves 8 are screwed on the tubes 3 over the engaged members to abut each other and thereby exclude moisture and prevent disconnection. A rubber sealing ring 13 is placed over the end 12 of the rubber cover 10. One connector may be mounted on a panel (Fig. 3, not shown) and is then provided with a retaining flange. Other forms of cable covering securing means comprising cut-away flaps are also described (Figs. 8 to 13, not shown). One coupling member may be integral with a wedge-shaped support which is welded to a body to provide an earth connection; alternatively the support may be replaced by a screw clamp (Figs. 14, 15, not shown). The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also another form (Figs. 4, 5, not shown), having separate contacts embedded in the member 5 which is made of insulation, and the surfaces 4 are either castellated (not shown), dove-tailed, or provided with an S- shaped profile (Figs. 16-20, not shown). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
