METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CUTTING CONTINUOUS FIBER IN FIXED LENGTHS AND CONTINUOUS ACCURATE MEASUREMENT THEREOF

Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for cutting continuous fiber in fixed lengths and continuous accurate measurement thereof. In the feed direction, an external servo motor (6) accurately adjusts the rotational speed of a rotating-hob cutting machine (2) for cutting a plurality of strands of continuous fiber (1); the fibers, having been cut, enter the feed port of an extruder; a sensor detects the number of long fiber strands; a control system, having obtained a sensor signal of the number of strands and having implemented comparison and differentiation, transmits, according to a certain method for cutting the fixed length volume of fiber, the relevant rotational speed adjustment control signal to the servo motor (6). The advantages of the method and apparatus are: the length of the fiber is controlled manually in advance, ensuring the fiber can reach the greatest length; as the fiber measurement is unrelated to the rotational speed of a screw, the screw can easily meet the highest technical requirements for the mixing and extrusion processes; the cut fiber in fixed lengths is preheated before being mixed with a melt, improving the melt-wetting of the fiber; also, the apparatus for cutting continuous fiber in fixed lengths is disposed outside of the extruder, facilitating apparatus maintenance.
