CHARACTERISTIC BASE SEQUENCES OCCURRING IN PLANT GENES AND METHOD OF UTILIZING THE SAME

By the mass sequencing of cDNA clones of barley strains including H. spontaneum, Haruna Nijo, and Akashinriki, it was found that single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) was present at many sites among these different strains. These SNPs include nonsynonymous SNPs and are likely to be associated with the phonotype distinct to each strain. The SNPs are therefore useful in a wide range of applications, for example, in genetically identifying strains or isolating genes, or in producing and screening for novel recombinants.
