PURPOSE: An electro gas welding method for improving the properties of a welding zone and an electro gas welding apparatus for the same are provided to obtain good properties of a welding zone by minimizing the growth of grains caused by reduced cooling speed. CONSTITUTION: An electro gas welding method comprises the steps of: processing both sides of a base material(S) to be connected by welding to form an X-shaped welding zone, fixing a backing material(B) to the center of the welding zone, covering the surface of the base material with a copper shoe and welding the surface of the base material by raising a welding torch(10) and the copper shoe, removing the backing material, covering the rear surface of the base material with the copper shoe and welding the rear surface of the base material by raising the welding torch and the copper hose(20).
