The application describes a method of deriving authentication data. The method comprises selecting an illumination configuration from a plurality of predetermined illumination configurations; illuminating at least a part of the user in a manner corresponding to the selected illumination configuration; capturing an image of at least a portion of the illuminated user; and determining whether to authenticate the user based on the captured image. |
