<p>676,192. Change-speed control. BROWN & SONS (HUDDERSFIELD), Ltd., D., and TAYLOR, A. Aug. 23, 1948 [Aug, 21, 1947], No. 23144/47. Class 80 (ii). A gear change selector mechanism of the kind in which the change is selected when the clutch is disengaged and effected by clutch engagement comprises three axially slidable selector rods ac, each having fixed thereto sleeves a<SP>1</SP>-c<SP>1</SP> and gear controlling forks a<SP>3</SP>, and all passingthrough slots such as e' in two selector discs e, f, slidably keyed to a shaft d, the angular position of which is controlled by an arm m, Bowden cable n and a change speed lever p. In operation, clutch disengagement actuates a linkwork k, i', j', i, j to move apart the discs e, f which through engagement with collars g, h on the rods a-c restores the latter and hence the gears to a rest position, Fig. 1. Selection of a new gear by the lever p angularly moves the discs e, f with respect to the rods a-c to set up a particular combination in the positions of projections e<SP>2</SP>, e<SP>3</SP>, f<SP>1</SP> on the discs e, f with respect to cut-away portions a<SP>2</SP> &c. of the sleeves a-c whereby clutch engagement in moving the discs e, f towards each other gives axial movement in the desired direction to the appropriate rod a-c to engage the selected gear.</p> |
