A joining method for easily joining butted portions of a pair of metal members together, with improved air-tightness and water-tightness maintained at the joined portion. The joining method joins together butted portions (J8) of a structure (metal members (N) to be joined together) formed by butting against each other a flat plate (14) and a rectangular member (R4) which are the metal members. In the joining method, a friction stir welding step is performed, in which a friction stir welding is applied to the butted portions (J8) from the outer surface (A) side of the structure, and after that a welding step is performed, in which welding is applied to the butted portions (J8) from the inner surface (B) side of the structure. |
