The present invention prevents a self-discharge state in a power storage device during a charging process by providing therein a circuit disconnection element, which can be opened or closed between a power storage element and a step-up/step-down bidirectional chopper circuit. When an abnormality occurs, the power storage element is cut off from other elements including the step-up/step-down bidirectional chopper circuit. Thereby obtained is an alternating current motor drive device that can reduce energy loss in a power storage element during power source regeneration for improved energy utilization efficiency, and is fitted with a safer power storage device that prevents the power storage element from damaging or affecting other elements when an abnormality occurs. |
