METHODS TO REMOVE GENETIC MARKERS

The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for genetic marker removal in cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria are developed having a genetic marker capable of being excised endogenously with a recombinase protein. Subsequent plasmid segregation removes genetic marker(s) and nucleotide sequences expressing recombinase from the host cell.
