A paper currency handling device comprises: a vault (a second unit casing) which safeguards paper currency; a first conveyance path which is disposed externally to the vault; and a second conveyance path which is disposed within the vault. The vault further comprises one or more aperture parts through which paper currency passes. A delivery unit is removably installed within the aperture parts, said delivery unit further comprising a delivery conveyance mechanism for delivering the paper currency between the first conveyance path and the second conveyance path, and a residual sensor which senses residual paper currency thereon.
